Fairmont Hotels & Resorts is currently looking for a Kitchen Steward to join its hospitality team in Cape Town.

This role is ideal for someone who works well in a fast-paced kitchen environment, takes pride in cleanliness and organisation, and enjoys supporting hotel operations behind the scenes.

About the Role

Reporting to the Executive Sous Chef, the successful candidate will assist with maintaining high hygiene and sanitation standards across kitchens, restaurants, and stewarding areas throughout the hotel.

Main Responsibilities

  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation in kitchen and restaurant areas
  • Wash and organise kitchen utensils, dishes, and equipment
  • Operate and maintain dishwashing equipment
  • Restock cleaning supplies and kitchen essentials where needed
  • Ensure garbage and waste disposal areas remain clean and hygienic
  • Monitor cleaning chemicals and water temperatures during shifts
  • Keep kitchen floors and stewarding stations clean and organised
  • Store cleaned equipment and utensils correctly
  • Assist with additional duties requested by management

Requirements

✔ Minimum Grade 12 qualification
✔ Previous experience in the hotel or hospitality industry preferred
✔ Good organisational and time management skills
✔ Ability to work independently and under pressure
✔ Positive attitude and strong work ethic
✔ Guest-focused personality with strong teamwork skills
✔ Fluent in English (spoken and written)
✔ Additional languages are advantageous
✔ Must be flexible with shifts, including morning and evening shifts
